Just like that, the Easter holidays are nearly here. For busy parents and carers, this can be an exciting yet overwhelming time. Staying organised and planning a few simple activities in advance can make the break more enjoyable for everyone.

In this blog, you will find a selection of fun and easy activity ideas to help keep your little ones entertained throughout the holidays.

For over 40 years, Camp Beaumont has been a leader in the holiday camp industry across London and the surrounding areas. During this time, we have developed a wealth of experience and creative ideas to help children stay active, engaged and inspired during the Easter break.

Here are some simple, low-cost activities that are easy to prepare at home and are also familiar favourites at our camps.

Go on a colour walk

This activity has become increasingly popular with both adults and children in recent years. It is a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors, embrace the arrival of spring and encourage curiosity about the natural world.

What to do

  • Take a piece of cardboard and draw a grid of nine squares. Make a small hole in the centre of each square, large enough to hold small items collected during your walk.
  • Put on your walking shoes and ask each child to choose a colour. Their mission is to find flowers, leaves or objects that match their chosen colour.
  • By the end of the walk, you should have a colourful grid, plenty of fresh air, new discoveries and lots of smiling faces.
  • Alternatively, children can take photographs of objects that match their colour, such as a yellow door, daffodils, shoes or even a yellow car.

Decorate cookies

A classic favourite. Decorating biscuits with icing, sweets and sprinkles is a great way to encourage creativity and reward children with a tasty treat afterwards.

What you’ll need

  • Plain biscuits of your choice
  • Icing sugar mixed with a small splash of water to create a smooth base
  • Sweets, gummies or colourful sprinkles

Be warned. Patterns may be forgotten as biscuits quickly become covered in sugary goodness!

Easter egg pattern reveal

A quick and magical activity that children love.

Materials

  • White paper
  • White wax crayon
  • Slightly watered-down paint
  • Paint brushes

What to do

  • Draw egg shapes and patterns on the paper using the white crayon.
  • Ask children to paint over the page and watch the hidden designs magically appear.
  • Encourage them to use bright spring colours to create a festive Easter feel.

Go on a picnic

With the hope of warmer weather, a picnic is a simple and enjoyable way to spend time outdoors as a family. Choose a local park, garden or green space and let children help prepare snacks or pack the picnic basket.

Outdoor games

Outdoor games are perfect for burning off energy and encouraging teamwork.

  • Egg and spoon races
  • Duck, duck, goose
  • Spring scavenger hunts such as finding a yellow flower, the longest stick or the biggest leaf
  • Throw-the-egg target games
  • Bunny tag, where one child must hop to tag the others

Build a bug hotel

Making a bug hotel is a fantastic way to keep children active, creative and curious, while also supporting local wildlife.

What you'll need

  • A small cardboard box or container
  • Natural materials such as leaves, sticks, stones, grass, pinecones, bark and twigs

Encourage children to loosely pack the materials to create cosy hiding spaces for insects. Adding stones at the bottom can help with drainage.

Once complete, place the bug hotel somewhere warm, dry and sheltered. As a follow-up activity, children can observe which insects visit and keep a simple nature diary.

Our camps are running for Easter between the 30th March and the 17th April* all around London and the Home Counties. Find your nearest camp and book your place for Easter today!

My little one had a great time at Camp Beaumont! When your 5 year old doesn't even look back when you wave them off in the morning - you know they're doing something great.
