The prospect of day camp is an exciting one for your child - there are hours of fun activities, experiences and play ahead of them. As a parent you know that preparation is the most important part of a calm, smooth and comfortable day - but what do you pack for a child’s day at camp?!

In this article, we’ll go through your kids’ camp packing list, so that your child is ready for anything.

What do I need to pack for a kids day camp?

Weather appropriate clothing

You’re packing for a UK kids camp - of course the weather will be unpredictable! However, what your child will need will generally depend on whether it’s a Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter camp.

For spring, autumn and winter day camps, we’d suggest a warm jumper or hoody, and/or a coat, as things could get a little chilly! If rain is forecast, pack a waterproof too - although at Camp Beaumont we’ll reassess activities in the event of heavy rain, we try not to let a little shower stop the fun. Whatever you pack for your child, make sure it’s named - we all know how easily mix ups can happen.

A healthy lunch

Your child will need fuel for an action packed day, so a well-balanced lunch is just what they need to keep energy levels up. Some of our camps have lunches available via pre-booking at an extra cost, but most parents send their child in each day with something healthy, filling, and accompanied by some snacks! All of our camps are nut aware, which means that we ask parents not to pack anything for their child that contains nuts.

Sun cream

We know how sun protection from an early age is important, and our camps include a healthy dose of fresh air. Therefore, even if the weather isn’t forecast to be especially hot or even sunny, we’d still recommend that there’s sun cream packed to protect their skin from harmful UV rays.

Water

Having fun all day is thirsty work, so kids need to keep hydrated. Pack a leak-proof water bottle so that a quick sip is always available.

Swimming gear

Our day camps are situated throughout the south east, and at some of these locations we’re proud to offer swimming as an activity. If swimming is something your child is likely to be doing, send them off with their swimming outfit, and a towel to dry off with.

Is there anything my child shouldn’t bring?

Money

Everything your child needs will be available at the day camp and, if necessary, paid for in advance by you, so there’s no need to keep cash or a card on them whilst they’re in attendance. Money can easily be misplaced, so to keep things simple, it’s strongly advisable not to bring it.

Tech

The idea of holiday and half term camps is to pack a variety of activities into your child’s day, such as arts and crafts, sports, games and events. There’s not a chance that they won’t be entertained! Therefore, devices like iPads aren’t necessary, and it’s simply not worth the risk of tech getting lost.

What school holiday camps are available?

If you’re in need of some school holiday child care, the good news is that Camp Beaumont offers fun activity day camps at various locations throughout the south east, covering all of the school holidays - yes, that includes some of the festive season! Catering for ageswe tailor our camps to the time of year, and the point that your child has reached in their development.

My little one had a great time at Camp Beaumont! When your 5 year old doesn't even look back when you wave them off in the morning - you know they're doing something great.
