What about safety procedures?

Our camps are registered and regularly inspected by local authorities, the British Activity Holiday Association (BAHA), the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority (AALA) and The Health and Safety Inspectorate.

Our camps fully comply with the provisions of the 1989 Children Act that imposes strict regulations for staff to child ratios (1:8), staff qualifications and types of equipment. (Camp Beaumont’s overall staff to child ratio is 1:3). Our staff are trained in safety procedures (including emergency communication plan, off-trip policies and procedures etc.) and evaluated on an on-going basis.

Needless to say all staff at Camp Beaumont have been cleared through the Criminal Records Bureau and two references have been obtained as to their suitability to be part of our camp team. Every camp has a dedicated NSPCC trained child protection officer as part of their team.

How do the activities work?

All campers enjoy a selection of high and low energy activities, depending on their age, choice of camp and ability. We also offer specialist holidays so campers can spend more time (normally 2-3 hours per day) on one particular activity such as our Watersports, Motorsports, or Special Agent Holidays. Camp Beaumont's daily activity programme is designed to cater for younger campers' needs for guidance and supervision, whilst accommodating older campers' desire for self-expression and the freedom to choose. We offer loads of activities on a daily basis and campers enjoy 6 activity sessions every day together with a full evening entertainments programme.

What are AALA and BAHA?

AALA is the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority, the government body responsible for licensing activity providers. AALA have a very narrow range of activities that require providers to obtain a license. Our Island, Colomendy Valley and Beaumont High camps operate a watersports programme during the summer months, and are licensed by the AALA. All other activities operated at all of our camps are outside the scope of the licensing regulations. Full details of the AALA license can be found online here

BAHA is the British Activity Holiday Association. The industry body which seeks to safeguard standards and be a voice to champion the benefits of activities for young people. Member camps have all agreed to abide by the BAHA Code of Practice and are committed to high standards of safety, value for money and customer service. All Camp Beaumont adventure Camps are scrutinised by independent BAHA inspectors according to BAHA’s own strict criteria. Further details on BAHA can be found online here
