Security

While life at camp is all about having fun, the security of our guests is an integral part of our operation.

SITE SECURITY

All residential camps have well-defined boundaries with secure fencing and security gates at the entrance. Some centres also have CCTV where necessary. All staff and adult guests are issued with a security badge which must be worn at all times. During the night we conduct regular checks of the accommodation areas as well as patrolling the grounds and boundaries.

Day camps are held on school premises so the sites are already set up to cater for children and young people. Camps are fully secure and we have stringent collection procedures in place. You’ll sign a register when you drop your child off and you’ll need to let us know who will be collecting them that evening. If the drop off and collecting signatories are not the same and you haven’t told us of any changes, we won’t be able to release your children. We can accept changes during the day in writing or by fax but not over the phone.

SUPERVISION

On arrival, campers are split into groups, with each small group having it’s own leader. Group Leaders sleep next to dormitories at our residential camps and are responsible for their campers’ pastoral care.

GOING OFF SITE

Campers must stay on-site unless accompanied by one of our team. On excursions where it’s not practical to remain in a large group, for example at a theme park, children split into smaller groups with staff always contactable, maintaining a continual presence with regular rendezvous.

ON-SITE SAFTEY

We carry out regular internal audits, risk assessments and inspections to ensure our high safety standards remain in place at all times. In addition, our residential camps are registered with and inspected by the British Activity Providers Association and have all achieved the 'Adventuremark' and Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge accreditation. The Island is also licensed to run water sports by the  Adventure Activity Licensing Service.

Every member of staff has been vetted through the Criminal Records Bureau and undergoes regular first aid and safety training. Each camp has a designated NSPCC-trained Safeguarding Children Officer.

OFSTED

Our day camps all undergo annual Ofsted inspections, covering site security, children’s welfare, health and hygiene and much more. We’re proud of our camps and the praise we have received from Ofsted so please feel free to download the reports at www.ofsted.gov.uk and see for yourself. Our camps also comply with the 2004 Children Act which imposes strict regulations on staff/children ratios amongst other things. Day camps are also inspected by the British Activity Holiday Association, demonstrating our commitment to providing the best holidays out there.
